Company History
GEMTEC Limited was founded in 1986 as a geotechnical engineering, materials testing, and hydrogeology firm. Today, GEMTEC Limited is an employee-owned company with five locations throughout New Brunswick, with more than 70 full-time engineers, scientists, technical personnel, and support staff.
Our Experience
GEMTEC is founded on solid technical expertise, and the experience of our specialists. We have made significant contributions to engineering works throughout the Maritime Provinces, and we're often called upon to provide solutions for challenging and complicated engineering projects.
GEMTEC has always used the latest innovations in technology; in fact, we were the first New Brunswick company in Atlantic Canada to use a pile driving analyzer (PDA), a piezocone, and a seismic cone. Our customized laboratory software was developed in-house and is unique to the engineering field. We also use industry-leading finite difference and finite element software programs, such as Visual MODFLOW and GeoStudios, which can be used for groundwater modeling, stress and deformation analysis, and slope stability analysis.
Community Involvement
GEMTEC is a proud and active supporter of our local communities. Our staff are involved in minor sports, as coaches and administrative personnel.
GEMTEC staff in Fredericton helped start Winterfest, which is now one of the best-attended recreational events in the Fredericton area.
Our staff in Grand Falls started an annual igloo-building competition to raise money for local engineering students — an event which saw one of the igloos entered into the Guinness World Record Book as the largest igloo ever constructed.
Annually, we help fund local minor hockey teams, and contribute to many other worthy and charitable causes.
Awards
GEMTEC Limited personnel have achieved significant recognition in their academic and professional careers. Listed below are a few of the awards and accomplishments for which we have been recognized.
For our involvement in the cleanup of the formerly contaminated Moncton shops, GEMTEC received the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Phoenix Award for Brownfield Re-development.
In recognition of our unique role in using old landfill materials for earthwork construction in order to limit environmental damage, GEMTEC received an Award of Merit (Category: Water Resources) from the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada, for the Paul J. Hayes, P. Eng., Waste Water Treatment Plant in Miramichi City, New Brunswick.
